AHLA Launches “Safe Stay” Initiative to Enhance Hotel Cleaning Standards

As hotels gear up for reopening, the AHLA launches the “Safe Stay” Initiative for enhanced industry-wide hotel cleaning standards. In order to meet new health and safety challenges and expectations presented by the Coronavirus, the initiative will focus on enhancing cleaning practices, social interactions, and workplace protocols in hotels.

This initiative comes to light after states across the country have begun to announce reopening dates. Most recently, the Texas stay-at-home order plans to expire this Thursday with businesses to reopen in phases starting Friday. 

As a result of this initiative, AHLA seeks to change hotel industry standards to ensure a safe and clean stay for hotel guests.

“Hotels have always had rigorous standards for cleaning and safety,” said Chip Rogers, president and CEO of AHLA. “With Safe Stay we are enhancing these standards to help create peace of mind.”

Best Practices

With the help of public health experts, scientists, and medical leaders, the AHLA Safe Stay Advisory Council is developing best practices for the hotel industry.

Current best practices are as follows:

  • Enhanced cleaning standards throughout the hotel. Spaces include guest rooms, meeting areas, common rooms, and back-of-house.
  • Superior cleaning products with bacteria-cleaning ingredients, following CDC guidelines.
  • Social distancing practices and reducing the amount of person-to-person contact.
  • Increased transparency throughout the guests’ stay.
