Within the hospitality industry, restaurants aren’t the only ones taking a massive hit from COVID-19. Bars and wineries are suffering and will possibly have a harder time once they start to welcome back customers.
As we all know, bars tend to get crowded, especially on weekend nights. While restaurants have been thinking of ways to control the crowds with limited capacity, spread out tables, and other social distancing measures, drink-focused destinations must find a way to control the usual crowds on Friday and Saturday nights.
To help find a solution, OpenTable welcomes bars and wineries to its platform. OpenTable is a restaurant tech company that offers online reservations at participating restaurants.
Once bars and wineries reopen, users of the platform can make reservations at a spot for happy hour or drinks with friends. In addition, users can opt in to a virtual waitlist where they will receive phone alerts once their reservation is ready. Fewer people will be waiting in lines to get in, and bars can utilize the platform to manage capacity.
OpenTable also offers contactless payment for wineries, where customers can prepay for tastings.
“Bars and wineries must operate differently as they reopen. OpenTable is here to help with software to accept reservations, manage capacity, attract guests, and maximize revenues,” said Andrea Johnston, COO of OpenTable. “People can visit their favorite places to socialize without waiting in lines or worrying about crowds.”
The restaurant reservation company also announced back in April their Open Door Program. This program waives subscription fees through the end of 2020 and cover fees through September 2020.
