Family Meal: A New Design Project to Support NYC Restaurants

During these unprecedented times, the support of New Yorkers is incalculable. Organizations and citizens continue to band together and find innovative ways to support those most affected by this pandemic.

Most recently, New York’s art and design community came up with a creative and thoughtful way to raise money for restaurants suffering during this time. Branding and creative studio, Decade New York, recently launched a website design project called Family Meal, which supports local NYC restaurants.

Family Meal is a digital project that features artistically creative recipe cards that have been designed and donated by illustrators and designers. The recipes are from NYC restaurants, including Popina, Five Leaves, and Lighthouse, to name a few.

With visually appealing artwork, these recipe cards demonstrate how to recreate some of these restaurants’ most popular dishes. Some recipes include Challah, Black Beans with Olive Oil, and a Miso-Buttermilk Dressing.

The designers and illustrators of these beautiful artistic creations include Pete Gamlen, Jay Cover, Nejc Prah, Jay Wright, Catalogue, and Tim Lahan.

How it works

To purchase, download the recipe card from the Family Meal website and donate any amount. From there, you can print out the recipe card and get to cooking!

During this time at home, cooking is a lovely pastime. Now, you can enjoy cooking dishes from some of New York’s finest restaurants!

As a result of purchasing a recipe card, your donation will go directly to the restaurant’s staff fund. “Our restaurants have always been there for us,” said Family Meal. “Let’s be there for them, so they can still be here when this is all over.”

All recipes are on letter-size paper, and you can print them at home. Family Meal will continue to post more recipes as they receive them, so subscribe to their email list if you’d like to see more!
